TONABLE DUCT

HIGH DENSITY POLYETHYLENE (HDPE) LOCATABLE CONDUIT AVAILABLE IN THE FULL RANGE OF CONDUIT SIZES

Features and Benefits

  • Easy to locate using conventional locating equipment
  • Proven locatable technology for empty conduits or those with dielectric optical fiber cables
  • PVC insulation on conductor provides additional resistance to corrosion, abrasion and moisture ingress
  • Conductor can be easily separated from the conduit with no loss of conduit wall or conductor jacket integrity
  • Complete system of coupling and terminating
  • Long lengths available in coils or on reels, reducing the number of splices required

GENERAL INFORMATION

Our tonable conduit is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin per ASTM D3350 combined with a locatable 16-AWG tinned solid copper jacketed conductor. Our tonable conduit is the reliable choice for locating dielectric optical fiber cables in HDPE conduit. Get the security of knowing that you are installing an underground system that can be located at anytime in the future.

It is available in a variety of wall thickness choices per ASTM F 2160. Alternate conductor sizes can be made available on request as well as other conduit sizes.

Tonable Locatable Wire Specifications

The PVC insulation on a tinned solid 16-gauge copper conductor offers additional resistance to corrosion, abrasion resistance and moisture ingress. The 16-gauge conductor provides the cost effective locating distance needed. Alternate conductor sizes can be made available on request. The conductor is securely attached to the outside diameter of the conduit using a co-extruded HDPE bond, which provides an additional protection layer. The conductor is attached to the wall but is not in the wall, assuring that the wall’s integrity is not breached. The conductor is easily stripped from the conduit with standard tools while retaining the resistance to corrosion, abrasion and moisture ingress.

HDPE STEEL ARMOR CONDUIT

Features and Benefits

  • Flexible coated steel armor layer
  • Rib HDPE inner liner – reduces cable pulling friction
  • Abrasion & water resistant HDPE outer Jacket
  • Available with pre-installed pull tape
  • Superior mechanical protection against:
    – Rodents
    – Ballistics
    – Crush
    – Chemicals
    – Moisture penetration
  • Available for overhead applications with black UV protective jacket

GENERAL INFORMATION

Armor-Guard™ is an armored duct designed to provide the highest protection in direct burial or aerial applications. The corrugated steel armor is coated on both sides with a corrosion-resistant copolymer. The coated armor integrally bonded with the HDPE jacket for superior cable protection in rugged environments. The patented Wave RibTM inner liner greatly reduces the coefficient of friction, by over 75%, significantly reducing cable installation loads. It is available only in 1-1/4″ diameter.

ARMOR-GUARD™ TOUGH–FLEXIBLE–SUPERIOR CABLE PROTECTION

Superior Long Term Protection – Armor-Guard’s flexibility with a low brittleness temperature of -75° F protects cables from ground movement, like frost heave hidden objects in the soil that might cause cable pressure points, moisture and chemicals.

Rodent Resistant – Armor-Guard is the most reliable protection against gophers and rodents. Its steel armor greatly resists gnawing animals from penetrating the internal liner assuring the conduit’s integrity to protect the internal cables.

Impact Resistance – Cable is protected from incidental shovel damage and provides much greater protection from impact than cable jackets alone.

Permanent Lubricant Applied – A specially formulated silicone lubricant emulsion can be added to the inner wall during manufacture. The lubricant will reduce the coefficient of friction to .10 or less, making cable installation much easier and less stressful on the cable. Being inert it will be there to help in removing the cable when future replacement is required.

Fast and Easy Installation – A special annealing process during each stage of manufacture assures flexibility to create straight payout from the reel or coil. It’s made in long lengths needing fewer couplers and speeding up installation saving time and money.

ARMOR-GUARD SPECIFICATIONS

Armor-Guard is available with a standard orange color jacket or solid black with color stripes for easy identification. Other colors can be made available, but minimum quantities may apply. Armor-Guard can be manufactured internally lubricated, with pull tape or with cables preinstalled.

Standard Dimension Ratio (SDR) and Pressure Class (PC), other DR's can be made available upon request, minimum run quantities may apply. Pressure ratings are determined based on 73.4ºF, should operating temperatures exceed 80ºF consult a representative for adjusted working pressure ratings. When hydrostatically testing do not exceed 150% of working pressure, for more information see ASTM F 2164. Note: For safety reasons pneumatic testing of PE pipe is not recommended.

Installation – suitable for direct burial by plowing, directional drilling or placed in a trench. Pipe shall be supported through the use of proper embedment and compaction in open cut installations. For more information regarding installation requirements obtain a copy of the “Polyethylene Handbook” from the Plastic Pipe Institute.
